The local community will have a major say in plans to transform a site in South Tottenham with new workspaces, employment opportunities and high-quality council homes.

This week Haringey's Cabinet agreed to acquire part of Gourley Triangle as a first step in delivering the next chapter in the area’s future.

The proposed redevelopment comes at an important time as the council seeks to support the borough’s economic recovery by investing in sustainable opportunities for residents.

Local people will be encouraged to participate in the design stage and alongside businesses, there will be a particular focus on including underrepresented groups and young people in the engagement process.

The Triangle already forms part of one of the Mayor of London’s Creative Enterprise Zones. The acquisition is supported by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government’s Future High Streets Fund programme.

The Cabinet Member for House Building, Placemaking and Development, Cllr Ruth Gordon, said: "The pandemic has had a devastating impact on jobs and businesses in Haringey but it has also taught us that things can and must be done differently . My ambition for this project is that we will create a model for placemaking in which the local community plays a genuine partnership role in shaping what this part of South Tottenham has to offer.

"The project has the potential to create a place where local people can work and live in a healthy, pleasant and sustainable environment built to the highest standards. Ensuring that it is co-produced and co-designed, using local talent and skills, will see the wealth creation benefits sustaining the local economy."
