The UK Innovation Corridor has unveiled its first Investment Prospectus, showcasing the region’s extraordinary potential for continued economic growth and innovation. With confirmation of the Corridor’s significant increase in Gross Value Added (GVA) and the promotion of the first four transformative projects, the prospectus highlights the corridor’s pivotal role in shaping the future of the UK’s economy.
Driving economic growth: GVA increase
The UK Innovation Corridor makes a significant impact on the UK economy with a GVA contribution of £284.1bn that underscores its position as a powerhouse of innovation and investment. This growth is driven by strategic initiatives across the Corridor, robust infrastructure, and commitment to fostering cutting-edge technologies. According to research done to support the launch of the Prospectus, 25% of England’s new knowledge intensive jobs since 2016 have been generated in the Corridor. The prospectus emphasises the Corridor’s strong and growing capabilities in global growth sectors including AI, life sciences, pharmaceuticals and digital, which have the power to attract global investors and create a thriving ecosystem for businesses and communities.
First four transformative projects
Central to the Investment Prospectus are four strategic projects designed to accelerate economic development and further establish the corridor as a global hub for innovation and a pre-eminent investment destination.
These initiatives include:
1. Hatfield Innovation Campus, Welwyn Hatfield: Focused on fostering innovation and economic growth, this project’s ambition is to create a flagship hub in central Hertfordshire for R&D occupiers, offering high-quality commercial space and residential units, ultimately strengthening the science and technology sector in the region.
2. Meridian Water, Enfield: A pioneering urban regeneration scheme already underway, designed to deliver 10,000 new homes, 6,000 jobs, and significant infrastructure improvements, transforming the 82-hectare site into a vibrant community with excellent connectivity to central London.
3. Millennium Mills, Newham: Targeting creative industries and sustainable development, this project seeks to repurpose a historic site into a dynamic workspace hub, leveraging its heritage and strategic location to attract businesses in media, culture, and innovation while embracing low-carbon solutions.
4. Station Gateway, Stevenage: An ambitious 30 acre project aimed at revitalizing Stevenage’s transport and business infrastructure, delivering new homes, employment spaces, a hotel, and enhanced connectivity, ensuring the town remains a key hub for global companies (Airbus, GSK, MBDA) and attracting the companies of tomorrow.
Strategic vision and call to action
The Investment Prospectus outlines a bold vision for the UK Innovation Corridor, emphasizing its unique strengths in sectors such as Life Sciences, Pharmaceuticals, Artificial Intelligence, Digital (FinTech, ED Tech, Data Infrastructure), Physical Sciences, alongside its connectivity to major economic hubs. The document invites stakeholders, investors, and policymakers to join
forces in realising the Corridor’s full potential.
