London Stansted welcomed a large delegation from the UK Innovation Corridor for a special behind-the-scenes visit to the airport.
The group, made up of local government representatives, businesses, universities, sub-regional bodies, and other partners received an exclusive tour of the airport and an update on the airport’s plans for the future.
Gareth Powell, the airport’s Managing Director, spoke to the group about the airport’s record-breaking summer, when 8.8 million passengers used the airport between June and August.
He also updated them on the airport’s £1.1 billion transformation plans which will deliver wide-ranging benefits including an extension to the terminal and links to more global destinations.
But the highlight of the visit was the behind-the-scenes look at the terminal and airfield, which allowed the delegation to see firsthand the inner workings of one of the UK’s busiest airports.
Speaking about the visit, Gareth Powell, London Stansted’s Managing Director, said: “The airport was delighted to welcome UK Innovation Corridor and we hope that they left us better informed about all the work going on here at Stansted. The visit was a great opportunity to showcase the significant investment we are making to improve facilities and provide an update on our work to deliver an even greater choice of destinations for our passengers. The Innovation Corridor is already one of the UK’s major success stories, and improved connectivity and access will only help build on this great track record.”
Jackie Sadek, Chair of the UK Innovation Corridor, said: “It was a privilege to visit London Stansted. Having a peek behind the scenes and witnessing the efficient operation was a fascinating experience. Our group gained a deeper understanding of the airport’s critical role in connecting people and businesses and how vital it is for the region. We are looking forward to seeing its continued success and growth.”
