Ambassadors visit our corridor, as Huntingdonshire’s defence sector goes from strength to strength

Huntingdonshire District Council hosted ambassadors from six Nordic and Baltic nations earlier this month, raising the profile of its thriving defence sector with the UK’s international partners.

His Majesty’s Ambassadors to Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Latvia and Lithuania visited Huntingdonshire on 9 and 10 March for a programme of briefings, site visits and networking events designed to showcase investment credentials within our corridor. Alconbury Weald Enterprise Zone and RAF Wyton featured prominently, with attendees introduced to Project FAIRFAX and future partnership opportunities.

While life sciences and advanced manufacturing have defined much of our recent growth story, Huntingdonshire’s growing defence sector, and its connections to other parts of our corridor, makes it an increasingly important piece in our growth jigsaw. The corridor is supportive of our member, Huntingdonshire District Council, in its efforts to promote the sector internationally.

Commenting on the event, Cllr Sarah Conboy, Executive Leader of Huntingdonshire District Council, said: “These events provided an opportunity to showcase the strength of our district, the partnerships we are building, and our growing role in supporting the UK’s defence, innovation and economic growth priorities.”

Charlotte Horobin, Chief Executive of Cambridgeshire Chamber of Commerce, added: “By bringing international partners, government and industry leaders to the district, this programme has highlighted the opportunities available here and the importance of strong partnerships in supporting investment, skills and long-term economic growth.”
