Stevenage Borough Councillors today confirmed the appointment of Matt Partridge as the council’s new Chief Executive.

He will take up the post on 25 July 2019 following the former Chief Executive, Scott Crudgington’s move to a new role as Head of Resources at Hertfordshire County Council.

Matt joined Stevenage Borough Council in September 2013 and is currently the authority’s Interim Chief Executive and formerly one of its Strategic Directors and Deputy Chief Executive. His career in local government spans over 35 years and includes several years at Aylesbury Vale District Council and Borough of Broxbourne.

Leader of Stevenage Borough Council, Cllr Sharon Taylor said, “I would like to congratulate Matt on his appointment. This role is a critical leadership role for our co-operative organisation. Matt demonstrated great local knowledge and an in-depth understanding of moving forward with our exciting plans for the transformation of Stevenage.

“We went through a rigorous recruitment process to ensure that we selected the best candidate. I am grateful for the support of the appointments committee to help us reach this important decision.”

Matt Partridge said, “There’s no other way of putting it, this is the proudest moment of my entire career. Becoming a Chief Executive is something I have aspired to achieve for many years. I have been privileged to work with Stevenage Borough Council officer colleagues, members and our partners over the last six years during which time we have achieved much whilst also laying the foundations that are necessary for us to realise our regeneration, housing development and cooperative council ambitions. We have also continued to deliver over 120 key services to residents and local businesses.

“I will continue to strive to ensure that local people are at the centre of what we do to improve both the town and the council.”

Matt has a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of North London and is an Executive Board Member of Chief Cultural and Leisure Officers Association.
